Gjødsel (Do Good)

Site-specific collage, Galleri Christinegaard, 2021.
Plywood, masks and drawings made for use in radiation treatment, fertilizer big-bags, binding wire, holes in the walls left by previous exhibitors, wall lights, overhead projector, illustrations from "Gjødsels ABC" (1910) and "Kort veiledning om gjødsel og gjødsling" (1935).

The exhibition focuses on ambiguities about waste and leftovers. It takes as its starting point that Gallery Christinegaard is located in a former manure cellar (gjødselkjeller), that Norwegian has more than 50 words for 'gjødsel', that the word 'gjødsel' comes from Norse gǿða which means 'to do good', that 'hevd' (Norse hæfr) is what is 'worth having' and that even 'renaissance' can be found as a synonym for 'gjødsel'.

Thanks to Halfdan Sørbye, Svein Rygg, Ingunn Eikeland – and previous exhibitors for leaving holes.
