WORDS ON HOLIDAY
Part of the duo-show Skriver seg inn with Aud Marit Skarrebo Holmen at Visningsrommet USF, Bergen, 2024.
Assemblage including foil on aluminum, silent film, overhead projectors, citations by L. Wittgenstein, S. Kierkegaard and Acts of Apostles, pencil drawing and eraser on wall, t-shirt, furnitures.
In a dialogue with ORDLØS (wordless/speechless) the work investigates aspects of how we relate to language. It deals with experiences of what it is like to find, have and loose words. A frame of reference is Ludwig Wittgenstein's investigations of how language in a variety of ways is woven into the way we live together.

Words on Holiday has five parts:
- Just inside the entry door two signs are poiting at each other. One is saying: 'FRITT' (free), the other: 'ORD' (word). Further inside you meet third sign. It says 'DETTE' (this) and points back at itself. All the three signs have been specially designed for Visningsrommet USF. They adopt the graphic profile found in signage elsewhere at the cultural center.
- As part of a sofa group, the silent film Ludwig Mix and the Great K&A Train Robbery is projected . The film is 6:17 minutes long and shown in loop. It includes quotes from Ludwig Wittgenstein and the 1926 silent movie Tom Mix and the Great K&A Train Robbery. Wittgenstein went to the cinema a lot and Tom Mix is one of the American film heroes that he is said to have particularly appreciated. In this film's dialogue, Mix is made to say words later written by Wittgenstein.
- Four overhead projectors show edited book pages from the series Quotes: Begrebet angest/Kierkegaard, Filosofiske undersøkelser/Wittgenstein and Apostlenes gjerninger/The Bible.
- If you go close up, you will observe that the word 'fridom' (freedom) is written in pencil repeatedly all over one of the gallery walls. In the middle though, there is an illuminated square of 100x70cm where nothing is written; an area that is free from 'fridom'. You also find erasers and dust from erasers on the floor, and can see on the wall that someone has started erasing words.
- A t-shirt is for sale. It has the text 'Ta meg på ordet'/'Ta på meg ordet' (Take my word for it/Touch me on the word/Put the word on me.)
